Community Lead Disaster Risk Reduction Workshop

Banda Aceh, 28 May, Thursday 2009, Islamic Relief Indonesia organized the community lead disaster risk reduction workshop on 28 May 2009 in Banda Aceh. A pilot DRR project has been implemented by Islamic Relief in Aceh covering 10 villages under Aceh Besar and Aceh Jaya districts over the last 14 months. In total 71 persons from different stakeholders were attended in this workshop.

IR Malaysia fund raising office personnel visited Aceh.

Iskandar Syah Ismail, Head of Fund Development and Farouq Faraatika Zauji, Head of Finance and Administration visited Islamic Relief office in Banda Aceh on 25 and 26th May 2009. Their main purpose of this visit was to meet with the orphan children who are living in Babun Najah Islamic Boarding school at Banda Aceh. Islamic Relief Malaysia office is going to provide financial support amounting USD 2,134 for 24 girls and boys of this boarding school to take part in “sewing, embroidery and fashion design” training through Islamic Relief Indonesia.

Build Capacity on First Aid Support

Banda Aceh, 20 May 2009, Mardiani Ibrahim, 30 years old who lost her house and assets during last Tsunami in Aceh, She also lost one of her nephew. She and her family spent 03 months in a school and one year in the tent. After that they received one house from Mammamia Charitas (international NGO). She was very happy when she saw Islamic Relief came to their village with disaster preparedness programme. From the very beginning she showed her willingness to help the village people and get prepared them for any future disaster. Now she is well knowledgeable on hazards/disasters, she knows the early warning systems. She participated in disaster preparedness trainings, participated in sphere standard training and conducted disaster simulation exercise in the village. As a member of the PAGAB (village disaster preparedness committee) she also contributed in preparing the village disaster contingency plan.
