WASH RESPONSE PROJECT 2009/2010 PDF Print E-mail

Pandeglang - Banten,31 March 2010.  Islamic Relief Indonesia in cooperation with Mining Agency-Pandeglang District, UN-OCHA, and Dr Suradal (Philanthropist) is implementing WASH RESPONSE PROJECT 2009/2010 in Pandeglang Districts. Project background it self is a diarrhea outbreak in several villages in August 2009 hundred people were suffering, 6 of whom were not saved.

As a part of this project Islamic Relief constructed the 30 wells and have been drilled, 24 are already functioning and benefiting more than 1,500 households or approx. 6,000 people, 6 Wells are in repair process due to improper quality of water (taste, color, and turbidity. More than 500 households have built simple private latrine, 50 others built permanent latrine using their own resources, more than 1,000 people were actively involved in hygiene promotion through hand washing practices, 10 wells have been checked through laboratory test, the rest are undergoing, the material used in well drilling: No one in quality (pipe: waving; Water machine: Grundfos), establishment of 30 water management committee (WMC), 5 sub-district WMC coordinator, 1 district WMC coordinator

The project goal is reducing morbidity and mortality rate caused by water borne disease incidence through improving access to safe drinking water, proper sanitation, and hygiene practices.

Mr.Drs.H.Erwan Kurtubi, MM, Head of District of Pandeglang and Mostafa Shadeque from Islamic Relief handed over the wells to the heads of village and the heads of water management committee. And hope the community after the project they can maintain the sustainability of the water facility as well as improve hygienic practices by their own effort so that they will escape from water borne disease threats.
